Know More About Stroke



Stroke is a situation where suddenly the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted. In brain tissue, reduced blood flow can cause a series of biochemical reactions that can damage and even kill nerve cells in the brain. With deaths occurring in the brain tissue will be able to remove or destroy the function of which is controlled by the network. Apart from causing death, a stroke can be saved if patients sometimes suffer paralysis in the limbs, loss of speech or partial loss of memory.

First attack of stroke disease is only attacking the elderly. However, today there is a trend that threatens the stroke at a young age under 45 years or age. A stroke can strike anyone regardless of age, occupation or socioeconomic level.

In America and Europe this stroke is the number 3 cause of death. While in global, stroke is a disease of the number 3 which resulted in the death after heart disease and cancer. Even according to the 2004 survey, stroke is the number 1 killer in the Government Hospital all over Indonesia.

Can not deny that the increase in stroke survivors in the world and in Indonesia synonymous with lifestyle changes, diet rich in fat and cholesterol as well as subtract physical activity (sports) a cause of stroke.

Types of Stroke

1. Ischemic Stroke

In ischemic stroke blood flow to the brain stops caused by atherosclerosis, or buildup of cholesterol on the walls pembulu blood or blood clots that clog occurs a blood vessel to the brain. The majority of stroke patients or 83% experienced this type of ischemic stroke.

2. Hemorrhagic Stroke

Hemorrhagic strokes occur at rupture of blood vessels thereby inhibiting the normal flow of blood and blood seeps into the region in the brain and damage it. 70% of patients with hemorrhagic strokes occur in people with hypertension or high blood pressure.

Risk of stroke increases when have the following factors:

Diabetes mellitus or diabetes
Hypertension or high blood pressure
Obesity
Smoke
Alcohol
High levels of cholesterol
Family history

Surely it is better to prevent than cure. Healthy lifestyles, healthy eating and balanced with sporting activities as well as maintaining ideal body weight is a way for the prevention of this disease.
